APPLETON ESTATE

Rum punch, rum laced tropical fruit drinks, rum cake, rum candy, rum tipped cigars…On this trip, you’ll discover why Jamaica is famous for this particular product.  Discover how the golden amber liquid so many people enjoy winds up in the bottle, when it originally started as a stalk of sugar cane.  You take a guided tour of the distillery, crush some cane the old fashioned Jamaican way, browse in the museum to see the tools our Jamaican grandfather’s used, then get to sample the many rums and rum creams that are made by the Appleton Estate.  There is a gift shop on the premises.

Pay a visit to the birthplace, and final resting grounds of Bob Marley, in the Cockpit regions south of Brown's Town. Rastafarian guides conduct the tour, from them you will hear of Bob's childhood and lifestyle. See Mt. Zion Rock, the inspiration stone where Marley sat while learning to play the guitar. Visit the church where his mausoleum is located to pay your respects. A small museum shop offers Marley goods.....

A trip for reggae enthusiasts.  Visit Bob Marley’s mausoleum and family grounds.  Travel through small villages and market town, stop and pick up fresh fruits in season, see what life is all about outside tourist areas.

ESCORTED TOUR OF NIGHT SPOTS/ENTERTAINMENT

Nightly entertainment in Negril can include live bands or recorded music.  Dance in the sand to live reggae, or take in the atmosphere in the disco or a go-go club.  See how tourists and Jamaicans alike party by dark.  Many places do not really get started until 10:00-11:00pm, so it is advisable to take a nap during the day or early evening in order to have enough energy to play.

NEGRIL ORIENTATION TRIP

Is this your first time to Negril?  Take a 4 hour trip of the town, from the farthest end of the beach, all the way down to the end of the cliff road, also called the “west end”.  Pick and choose when and where you want to stop and explore, plus I will stop at those special places I don’t want you to miss out on……learn the layout of the town, where to find those special places to eat, shop, relax or party you’ve heard about  or are known only to local residents. Want to stop on the grounds of the lighthouse, stop in at the Jamaican Jurassic Park, watch a sunset from Rick’s or Pirate’s Cave?  Want to learn where to get the best exchange rate for your dollar, pick up groceries, and find the souvenir and craft shops with the best prices?  Want to learn about food specialties from a Jamaican’s point of view, find out which scooter shop is the most reputable, how to save money on phone calls home or where to get the best rates for email services or internet time?  Want to start out in the morning?  Would you rather go midafternoon to sunset?  You choose the time - this is the trip for you!

LOST BEACH

Take a drive along a quiet rural road where motorcycle taxis are the norm, rather than cars.  Stop at the seaside in Broughton, where you can investigate the Lost Beach Resort for a future stay.  Watch the boats come in with the fresh catch of the day.  Have fresh roasted fish there, or buy some to take home to cook later, or arrange to have it cooked for you.

LITTLE BAY

Definitely off the beaten track, Little Bay is a way to see what Negril might have been years ago before the tourist boom struck.  Take a half day to explore sandy coves, a “rat-bat” cave, and a submerged, underground swimming hole for a quick, cooling dip after your short hike.  Stop for a visit at Bob Marley’s hideaway, have lunch at Uncle Sam’s  bar, where you can hang out in the hammock with a cold drink, while waiting for an authentic meal, cooked the old-fashioned Jamaican way on a wood fire.

Combine Lost Beach and Little Bay into a peek into what it might be like to live here as a member of a small community, rather than a tourist.   Ask for price quote on the discounted combination trip.

ROARING RIVER PARK – Benji’s Mineral Spring

Roaring River Estate in Petersfield is named for the gushing waters of the river.  It is part of an estate originally belonging to one of the first British families to settle in Jamaica after the overthrow of the Spanish, back in the 17th century.  This is an area of tall trees, beautiful flowers, and beautiful water.  Take a dip in the underground mineral spring, and explore the property’s cave.  If you visit Benji’s mineral spring, you will bathe in a fresh water pool in the midst of his own ‘garden of Eden.

COMBINE YS FALLS, BLACK RIVER AND THE APPLETON ESTATE FOR A 3-IN-1 PACKAGE.

ST. ELIZABETH = Black River

Take a ride up the river on a pontoon boat, learning about the crocodiles, birds and plants of this protected area.  Feel adventurous?  Take a swim at the turn around spot – your boat captain will be sure you can swim without crocodile companionship! You will also see Bamboo Alley, and drive through Middle Quarters where you can purchase some peppered shrimps and for a stop in Scott’s Cove, a corner famous for its “fish and bammy stands” - another Jamaican food treat.

ST.  ELIZABETH = Y.S. Falls

These falls are on the grounds of a family farm, in the foothills of the Nassau Mountains.  You’ll see their prizewinning racehorses and Red Poll Cattle as you enter.  You’ll climb aboard a tram that will carry you through fields of giant trees into a corner of the valley where the Y.S. River tumbles down four cascading steps into pools of cool water.  Take a swim; jump from the hanging rope swing, or crawl behind the falls into a small cave.  Or, add in an hour’s cruise down the river on an inner tube for a ride through tranquility.

Enjoy the height of relaxation – aboard a bamboo raft, take a one hour cruise down the Great River.  Listen to stories of the valley or Jamaican life from your ‘pole man’ as he steers you down the tranquil green waters. Close your eyes and soak in the quiet of nature’s sounds.  Ask to take a dip in the water if you like.

Bamboo Rafting II

Take a raft ride down the Martha Brae River.  Try your skills being the poleman – YOU guide the raft!

Glistening Waters

Take a swim in a lagoon where the water glows when it is disturbed.  Watch your body glow with an other-worldly white light as you swim in the nighttime waters.  Only 3 other places like this exist in the world – Jamaica’s lagoon is the largest – don’t miss this one!
